GIRO 2024 REVIEW !

THE GIRO D’ITALIA 2024, WAS IT WORTH DISCUSSING ?

Why a Giro 2024 review ? Since we don’t cover the races, there was a debate in the editorial office! It’s a bit like the 2024 Tour of Catalonia, where everything was decided from the start.

SO, MORE COLNAGO ?

Of course, since no rival was present at the start of the 2024 Giro! So, what’s the point? However, it is one of the three Grand Tours, with 21 stages, and we were hoping for some revelations regarding the equipment !

AND WE WERE RIGHT !

This is why we’re giving ourselves a little pat on the back!

The 2024 Giro was full of French emotions.

Benjamin Thomas’s triumphant victory on Look and Corima finally opened Cofidis’ victory account. Aurélien Parret Peintre won on Van Rysel and Swiss Side wheels for Decathlon-AG2R. Romain Bardet finished in the top 10 on Scott, and Julian Alaphilippe (Specialized/Roval) reignited two flames: ours AND his.

A success? Yes, because Look and Van Rysel are French manufacturers in the World Tour, and they were right to want to establish themselves there !

THE FRENCH AWAKENING !

AND NO MATTER THE TEAM ! After our two issues on sponsor transfers (E-Books ‘Com’), we were expecting results ! Decathlon-AG2R takes the prize for the ‘well done’ category. Cofidis (Look/Corima) finally unlocked its victory tally with Aurélien Parret-Peintre and Simon Geschke (7th best climber in the Giro behind… Pogi) !

THE 2024 GIRO FROM THE RIDERS’ PERSPECTIVE. Alaphilippe claimed a stage victory in style, and Bardet finished in the top 10! Alaphilippe’s success benefits Soudal-Quick Step (Belgium), while Bardet’s performance benefits DSM-Firmenich (Netherlands).

FRAMES : We know Colnago ! We know the Pinarello Dogma F12 as well, etc. So, we decided to focus on the Look 795 RS Blade and the Van Rysel of Decathlon-AG2R.

For the WHEELS/GROUPSETS/PERIPHERALS. Shortly after its release, the performance of the new SRAM Red 2024 groupset is already evident. As for the wheels and peripherals, there are no surprises compared to 2023 (except for Swiss Side).

THE CYCLIST’S EYE : Is Cervélo falling behind? Due to the absence of iconic leaders from Jumbo-Lease a bike, they are struggling a bit. But Pinarello has taken advantage. The usual trio, Cervélo/Colnago/Specialized, has been replaced by the trio: Colnago/Specialized/Pinarello. We don’t believe that Pinarello’s reputation is necessarily being restored; rather, Cervélo’s misfortunes are benefiting Trek in our opinion.
